Job Description:
Position Summary:The Public Policy Manager will provide
leadership for our public policy and advocacy work, working
collaboratively with our Executive Director, board of directors,
public policy committee, and community members. The ideal candidate
will have a deep understanding of public policy, government
relations, and advocacy. This role requires a strategic thinker who
can navigate complex political landscapes and build strong
relationships with key stakeholders. In-depth knowledge of human
and non-human animal research ethics and oversight is required.What
you'll do:
- Actively participate in setting PRIM&R's direction and
focus in the area of public policy, collaborate with internal teams
to ensure alignment on policy priorities, strategies, and
organizational goals.
- Implement PRIM&R's public policy agenda, develop
strategies, and negotiate solutions for policy issues that are
important to the PRIM&R community.
- Stay informed on emerging trends and best practices in public
policy by monitoring legislative and regulatory developments at
federal levels, create and manage systems to track and report on
policy activities and outcomes.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders,
including policymakers, industry groups, advocacy organizations,
and partner organizations to advance policy goals.
- Coordinate and participate in meetings, hearings, and other
events related to public policy.
- Organize and engage members and policymakers in public policy
efforts impacting PRIM&R's mission and community.
- Manage and produce web content, electronic policy updates,
legislative alerts, position statements, and research reports for
members and other key stakeholders.
- Prepare and deliver presentations, reports, and other
communications, and provide training and support to staff and
members on policy issues.
- Educate legislators and other policymakers regarding the scope
and impact of policy issues affecting PRIM&R's mission and
community.
- Organize and co-lead Public Policy Committee meetings.
- Coordinate with the education and membership teams to ensure a
robust, relevant program of learning opportunities related to
advocacy and public policy for members.
- Contribute to the development of organizational budget by
identifying public policy initiatives and activities requiring
financial resources.Relationships:--- Internal: Works closely with
Executive Director and senior management team in strategic and
long-range public policy planning. Works with all departments on
educational programs and overlapping initiatives.--- External:
Works with external organizations and individuals on partnerships
and collaborations. Serves as a highly visible external
representative of PRIM&R and must be comfortable cultivating
and maintaining strong relationships with diverse partners.Travel:
The Public Policy Manager is required to travel to the PRIM&R
Annual Conference. Additional travel up to 25%, including travel to

- 3-5 years relevant and progressively responsible work
experience in public policy, advocacy, or equivalent experience in
a related field.
- Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred.
- In-depth knowledge of human and non-human animal research
ethics and oversight.
- Experience working with diverse populations.
- Public speaking and presentation skills, as well as strong
written communication skills.
- Proven planning and analytical skills to evaluate complex
situations and recommend next steps/solutions.
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft
Office.
- Experience with Salesforce and Constant Contact or equivalent
data management systems preferred.
- Experience with data analysis tools preferred.

effectively and professionally.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Ability to travel.
