Mission Statement
The mission of the Boston Public Health Commission (BPHC) is to

Job Description
- Carries out communicable disease surveillance, prevention, and
control measures for the City of Boston.
- Investigates reports of communicable diseases including
pathogens of public health importance, reported outbreaks, or other
situations of public health concern, including emerging pathogen
events.
- Conducts field investigations (including home and site visits)
and implements preventive and control measures as needed.
- Provides nursing services at the BMC TB Clinic, including
patient assessment, patient/family/significant other education,
medication monitoring, and tuberculin skin testing.
- Assists with surveillance and control activities for mass
casualty events
- Collects epidemiologic data as needed for analysis of
communicable diseases within Boston.
- Provides nursing support for CDC Division including vaccine
clinics and other projects or activities as needed.
- Acts as a resource re education and outreach to community-based
agencies, health care facilities and providers, individuals, and
other internal and external stakeholders in matters related to
infectious diseases
- Participates in staff conferences and meetings, other
departmental and community committees, research activities, quality
improvement activities and program planning as requested.
- Collaborates with others throughout the Division to ensure
public health preparedness
- Performs other duties as required.Minimum Qualifications
- Licensed to practice as Registered Nurse in Massachusetts.
- BSN or a Bachelor's Degree in a related field required with
minimum of two years of clinical or public health experience,
except that 8 years clinical or public health experience (health
education, outreach) may be substituted for a BSN or Bachelor's
Degree
- Masters in Public Health degree may be substituted for one year
of experience.
- Prior experience working with infectious diseases
preferred.
- Demonstrated competency in working with diverse ethnic,
cultural socio-economic groups.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated ability to carry out responsibilities in the home,
community group settings.
- Computer skills including Microsoft Word or comparable software
required.
- Bilingual preferred (Spanish or Asian language).
- Current Massachusetts drivers license and own
vehicle.Additional Information

Village, Beacon Hill, Brighton, Charlestown, Chinatown, Dorchester,
Downtown, East Boston, Fenway-Kenmore, Hyde Park, Jamaica Plain,
Mattapan, Mid-Dorchester, Mission Hill, North End, Roslindale,
Roxbury, South Boston, South End, West End, West Roxbury, Wharf
district.
- A Criminal Offenders Records Information request must be
completed for this position. However, a record is not an automatic

- This position requires direct client/patient contact and as a
result of such direct contact, certain immunizations will be
recommended and/or required prior to commencement of employment
duties.
- Any position that requires an advanced degree will be subject

- The advertised shift and schedule are subject to change at the
departments discretion.
Shift
40 hours/week M-F 8:00-4:30 or 8:30-5:00 or alternate shift to be
determined by the Division. Position may require occasional
weekend, holiday, or evening hours. Hybrid Schedule is subject to
BPHC's temporary teleworking policy.
