Job Description:
Job Summary
As a skilled Nuclear Medicine Technologist at Atrium Health, you
will be responsible for handling positron emitting
radiopharmaceuticals, computers, and scintillation detection
equipment with competence and knowledge. Your primary role will be
to operate both Nuclear Medicine and PET equipment to obtain
diagnostic images or measurements of pharmaceutical distribution in
specified body areas.
Essential Functions
1. Administer diagnostic doses of radiopharmaceuticals under the
supervision of a Radiopharmacist.
2. Examine requests and verify orders on each assigned patient,
referring and questioning orders to the Radiologist before
performing the exam, and contacting the ordering physician when
there are discrepancies.
3. Correlate other test results and laboratory data with the exam
being performed.
4. Obtain medications, radiopharmaceuticals, or contrast materials
as directed for administration by a licensed practitioner,
authorized/certified technologist, or registered nurse.
5. Operate dose calibrators, computers, lab equipment, and survey
meters.
6. Verify the correct patient by checking the patient's armband and
validating proof of identity, and record medical history on
requisitions.
7. Record dose information, patient data, dates, views, and other
pertinent information on finished exams.
8. Evaluate the technical quality of images and consult with a
Radiologist if needed, recognizing abnormal anatomy and processing
any additional, reconstructed images and/or measurements as
instructed.
Physical Requirements
This position requires moderate to heavy physical efforts in
lifting and moving patients, equipment, and supplies up to 600
pounds with assistance. May be required to stretch, bend, twist,
squat, and kneel in performing diagnostic procedures. Vision and
hearing for distances of at least 20 feet are necessary. Able to
carry weights of up to 25 pounds while moving film jackets,
supplies, or equipment to work areas. Significant walking will be
required as approximately 50% of work time will be standing. 50% of
work time will be operating computers, monitors, survey meters, and
other equipment requiring manual dexterity and use of the hands.
Precision manual dexterity is required for venipuncture and
radiopharmaceutical administration.
