Program Manager - ( 3305354 ) A Program Manager (PM) position is
available on Dr. Tayyaba Hasan's team at the Wellman Center for
Photomedicine, Massachusetts General Hospital. The research
laboratory focuses on the applications of photodynamic therapy to
cancer and non-cancer pathologies. The PM will be the point person
for communication within a group that averages 10-12 members and
will support the team's research efforts and will work closely with
and directly report to Dr. Hasan. A significant comfort level with
computers, some programming, and other technical aspects of IT is
required. The PM will be expected to assist in writing human and
animal protocols and will interface with the IRBs. He/she will be
the group point person for the WCP Grants management for
preparations of administrative documents. The PM will also be
responsible for the coordination of academic and industry
collaborations and tracking of group intellectual property. The
ideal candidate will facilitate appropriate and timely information
exchange between team members and other collaborators, help
coordinate reports and grants, identify safety, and regulatory
issues, manage timelines, and communicate progress/issues arising
on projects. Occasionally more complex situations arise, and the PM
will be the interface between hospital administration and the
Laboratory for rare complex situations such as insurance, in case
of laboratory accidents. This is an ideal position for individuals
interested in developing management and organizational skills in a
science laboratory and moving to a higher-level management industry
or academia. The PM will work closely with the Staff Assistant for
the Team. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Planning and
management of research operations, this includes multiple
industrial/academic collaborations and interaction with scientists,
venture capitalists, and industry executives on research
ventures.
- Facilitates meetings and creates follow-up action items.
- Manage confidentiality agreements, material transfer
agreements, project timelines, budgets, deliverables, reporting,
and regulatory requirements.
- Evaluate novel applications and outcomes of research focused on
drug delivery and targeting strategies for improved outcomes in
oncology and infectious diseases.
- Effectively communicate with collaborators and Partners
Innovation Office for processing of confidentiality agreements,
intellectual property disclosures, and patent applications.
- Manage the timeline of applications/agreements.
- Assist in writing and collating grant applications, progress
reports, research manuscripts, and scientific protocols.
- Monitor financial reports and expenditures and prepare
budgetary forecasts on a quarterly basis.
- Assist in the recruitment of new staff.
- Oversee and guide group scientists into appropriate protocols,
-e.g., animal or biosafety, for research.
- Working with laboratory technicians and other collaborators to
update the Hasan lab and P01 websites.
- Provides troubleshooting with technical issues, related to
computers and other technology, that arise in the office.
- Interfaces with Hospital Administration in rare cases of
laboratory damage such as flooding.
- Welcomes and orients new group members.
- Facilitates the departure process of group members by
collecting and filing electronic data, assisting with the
completion of necessary departure forms, and relaying
responsibilities and supplying locations to remaining group
members. EDUCATION:
- A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in a scientific field is
required. Master's degree or PhD preferred. EXPERIENCE:
- 2-5 years of related experience in research or laboratory
management required SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED: - Must
be highly organized, energetic, self-motivated, and capable of
multitasking - Excellent project planning, prioritization, and time
management skills. - Handling social media and populating the
websites - Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects
simultaneously and meet deadlines. - Technical proficiency with
computers and other technology. - Strong ability to search for
information. - Excellent problem-solving skills. - Excellent verbal
and written communication skills. - Ability to successfully work
both autonomously and in a team environment. - A demonstrated
ability to think strategically and work collaboratively to inspire,
motivate and focus partners. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: Oversee
and provide guidance to scientists within the group including
postdoctoral fellows, technical staff, and graduate and
undergraduate students. FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY: Assist with budget
production for grants and contracts and monitoring budget
expenditures. EDUCATION:
