Job Description:
ResponsibilitiesPeraton is seeking a Senior Network Engineer to
join our team of qualified and diverse individuals.This position
will be on site for the first 6 weeks and then will move to hybrid
in Boston, MA.The Sr. Network Engineer will be responsible for
providing and managing a network infrastructure and security
architecture that supports the needs and goals of the SEC. To
support the continuous availability and performance of applications
and services provided to the public and other divisions under the
Secretary's office. He/She will plan, implement and support network
and security solutions at multiple locations around the state
including the main office at 1 Ashburton, the State Archives
building at Columbia Point, various Registry of Deeds offices in
each County of the state and an established DR site. After hours
availability is required in order to respond to emergencies, and to
perform system maintenance that cannot be completed during normal
business hours.Day to Day Work Responsibilities:
- All aspects of network and security engineering: design,
implementation, optimization, monitoring and troubleshooting of our
LAN, WAN, WLAN and DR networks.
- Configure, upgrade, and troubleshoot routers, switches,
firewalls, load balancers, proxies, accelerators and wireless
technologies.
- Ensure access, to all information systems, is controlled, both
internally and externally, relative to the level of potential risk
and recommend appropriate corrections.
- Participate in computer security incident response efforts and
other security related investigations as needed.
- Utilize systems expertise and knowledge of software, hardware,
networks, and/or storage to work across the business to evaluate
business needs and design/manage end-to-end technical
solutions.
- Leverage industry best practices to assess, design, test,
implement and support new and existing multi-tier solutions in
multiple sites and data centers.
- Performs network performance and tuning activities.
- Ability to create accurate network diagrams and documentation
for design, configuration, planning and trouble locating
procedures.
- Handles provisioning and capacity planning.
- Ability to quickly learn new or unfamiliar technology and
products using documentation, internet resources and any other
means at your disposal.
- Participates in disaster recovery planning and
testing.Operational Management:
- Configure networks to ensure their smooth and reliable
operation for fulfilling business objectives and processes.
- Monitor network performance and troubleshoot problem areas as
needed.
- Ensure network connectivity of all servers, workstations,
telephony equipment, and other network appliances.
- Network asset management, including maintenance of network
inventory and related documentation and technical specifications
information.
- Monitor and test network performance and provide network
performance statistics and reports.
- Manage all network security solutions.QualificationsBasic
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree and 5 years of experience or a Masters degree
and 3 years of experience or a High School diploma and 9 years of
experience.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or Green Card holder.
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills, enabling
effective collaboration across teams and stakeholders.
- Extensive experience as a network engineer in designing,
implementing, and managing complex network infrastructures.
- Proven experience with the continuous delivery of applications
and network services in enterprise environments.
- Expertise in managing and optimizing Cisco wireless networks to
ensure seamless connectivity.
- Hands-on experience with Cisco ISE configuration, deployment,
and management.
- Proficiency in managing Cisco Catalyst and Nexus switches, as
well as Checkpoint, Fortinet, and OpManager solutions. Experience
with Brocade and Arista SAN switches is a strong advantage.
- In-depth technical knowledge of network hardware, protocols,
and Internet standards, including OSI Model, TCP/IP, DNS, BGP,
OSPF, VPC, VRF, VDS, MPLS, and SD-WAN.
- Advanced skills in security policy administration, including
managing access control lists (ACLs) and familiarity with IPS/IDS,
port scanning, and penetration testing tools.
- Expertise in foundational networking concepts, particularly OSI
Layers 1-4, for designing and troubleshooting robust network
architectures.
- Strong ability to analyze and interpret packet captures using
tools like tcpdump and Wireshark for network diagnostics.
- Solid understanding of ITIL or a comparable IT Service
Management framework, with a focus on aligning network operations
with organizational objectives.Preferred Qualifications:
- Cisco certified - CCNP/CyberOps Professional preferred.
- Scripting capabilities a plus.
- Ability to analyze packet captures (tcpdump/Wireshark).
- Able to demonstrate a clear understanding and expertise for
deployment of networking technologies in a virtualized
environment.
- Use of network monitoring tools, such as OpManager, Netflow,
Nagios, MRTG etc.
- Ability to use problem solving techniques such as root cause
analysis to resolve issues.
- Ability to work independently on multiple projects.
- Ability to work collaboratively and assume a technical
leadership role when required.
- Ability to explain network concepts to both fellow technical
staff in detail, and to non-technical staff at an appropriate
level.
- Ability to effectively prioritize tasks in a high-pressure
environment.
- Highly self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to
detail.
- An interest in working hard and being challenged in a
